Disable Browser Autofill with Business Central

 By Steve Endow

While using Business Central with Google Chrome, I started to notice strange words appearing in Business Central fields while I entered data in the browser.

Why are you doing this?

In this example, the word "test" was appearing when I clicked on the drop down list for bank accounts in Business Central.  The suggested value was in a text box displayed over the standard Business Central list box.

This was happening in several fields, and this "auto suggest" feature would display seemingly random words.

I asked the BC Hive Mind on Twitter, and learned that several others have seen this annoying issue. I also quickly received feedback that the behavior is most likely the browser, and not Business Central.

I opened Chrome Settings and found the Autofill settings.

Are you the culprit?

I didn't know which of the Autofill features was causing the issue, but I assumed it was not Passwords.  I can't explain why Chrome would think the word "test" was either a payment method or an address, so it seems like the Autofill feature may be a bit buggy, or overzealous in its desire to suggest field values.

So I opened both "Payment methods" and "Addresses and more" and I turned both of those off.

I banish thee

After turning off both the "Payment methods" and "Addresses and more" Autofill features, the problem went away completely for me.

I don't know if just one of those was the issue, or if both were involved, but I don't use either of those features in Chrome, so turning them off won't be an issue for me.

I hope this helps you avoid this annoying browser quirk.

If you find similar behaviors with other browsers that require a different fix, please let me know and I'll update this post.
